I just watched the interview. So Jason is
essentially offered a head coaching job by
two organizations. He says he wants to be
a head coach. Jerry is pursuing him like
there's no tomorrow. They have a private
meeting late Wednesday night. Jerry pursuades
him to stick around. All the media
says he's the next head coach of the Cowboys
at some point in the future.

If you are Wade Phillips and your playoff
record is now 0-4, what are you thinking?

That I'm 63 and perhaps I'd like to be a general manager rather than a
coach. Perhaps I can help develop Garret into a really good coach.
(That Jerry pays assistant coaches as well as some other teams pay
their head coaches.)

Of course, I don't know what Jerry told Wade, nor do I know what
deals (formal or informal) were made when Jason and Wade were hired.

I hope he's thinking he could have beenfired for the poor coaching job he
did with the Cowboys last Sunday.

If Wade thinks that, he's kidding himself. He'll have to pry the GM
position out of Jerry's cold, stiff fingers. Jones isn't going to give
up his chance to play fantasy football without a major change of heart.

That's now. In about 3 days he's gonna start thinkin' that this might
mean his days are numbered. Then he's gonna think about a condemned
man's last meal. And then he'll think this again.

Considering Garrett was hired by Jerry before Wade last year and the
talk that Garrett would be the Cowboys coach even when he was hired as
OC, don't you think Phillips has had this on his mind since the day he
started working in Dallas?

My guess is Wade knew he would be the coach for one two or three years
max then Jason would take over for him. Here's the real dilemma for
Jerry.

Easy prediction - if Dallas does not make the playoffs next year or if
they make it and fall in the first game again, Wade is out and Garrett
is in. But, what if Dallas wins the SB next year? or makes it to the
SB or NFCCG? How can Jerry fire Wade at that point to give Jason the
job?

I think Wade can keep his job if he gets the team to win something.
Jason Garrett is Wade's constant reminder of the consequences of
failure.
