You chase Coughlin out of town, and he shows you and the world what he
can do.
Perhaps now is the time to offer your mea culpas as a group, and
welcome Andreas back into the fold.
Just a thought.

Now why would I do that? I was never in favor of his firing. In fact, I
thought his last year with Jacksonville was one of the finest coaching jobs
I'd ever seen. That said, I fully understood why the combination of
(misguided) fan opinion, Couglin's PR issues, tickets sales, and a probable
long haul back to winning left Weaver with no real option but to fire him.
I also had little doubt that he would do very well with the Giants, and said
so to a fairly skeptical Giants newsgroup when he was hired by New York. |

I've always loved Coughlin. Hated to see him leave but fully
understood the team making that decision. Since he's been in NY, I've
been following the Giants closely. I've rooted for them, and I nearly
went nuts during the playoffs. I am so happy and thrilled for Coach
Coughlin, the way the Giants played this year and winning in the post
season and SB the way the did. |

Coughlin has always been a sound coach and a good talent evaluator. But his
"win now at any cost" approach darn near bankrupted the Jags. Wayne Weaver
learned his lesson - JDR has the Jags in contention and they still have $30M
cap room. |

Weaver has taken the blame for that "win now at any cost" approach, and
appears to have been the driving force behind it. He admits that he let the
cap get out of control in the quest for a championship. In Weaver's own
words, "The Super Bowl is a powerful intoxicant." |

Exactly how I feel. It was the next best thing to having the Jaguars win
it.
