Addendum...the one thing that pisses me off is that he used 911 to
call the police. THAT was out of line.

I think the policeman overreacted, but I don't really blame the
Circuit City guys. If you want to be treated as someone who can be
trusted, pay the extra to shop at the mom & pop where they know your
name. The CC guys don't know you from Adam and they are just trying
to do their jobs. It doesn't strike me as unreasonable to ask to see
a receipt.

Since he apparently has no respect for any type of authority, I doubt he
cares.

I wonder if the cops reaction was in part due to the 911 call?

Damn pot-smoking hippies need to learn perspective and to pick their
fights. Illustrated by the fact that he goes all civil-disobedience
over showing his receipt--I want his life, his is obviously too easy.

He could have been arrested just for that, I think.

Are you actually defending this ass?

Let's assume for a moment he _was_ shoplifting something. How would the
store ever prove it if they couldn't insist he show a proof of purpose?
This jerk was bascially saying once he gets out the door with something the
store has no way to prove he stole it, even if they stop him right outside
the door.

The ONLY part he has any sympathy from me was the cop asking for his
DL. I've been a passenger in a car several times and asked for my DL,
and refused. I tell them my name but also tell them they have no
right to see my lisence since I am NOT operating a MV. Once was with
my wife, and she didnt find the humor in it. I understand they are
doing their job, making sure I dont have outstanding warrants or some
such, but there is no law requiring one to carry ID, thus they cant
require you to provide it.

And you knew their policies before you shopped there the last time, and you
decided to get cute. The whole blame on this is on you, buddy, for putting
yourself in the situation in the first place. Your "rights" issues fall flat
on the Circuit City argument. The police section is mostly your fault since
you shouldn't have been in that situation in the first place.

dude, when you rent, it's yours, or do you allow your landlord to walk
into your place anytime they wish?

I don't believe he has no respect for any type of authority. In fact,
I would say he has precisely the correct amount of respect for
authority. However, he shouldn't have been calling 911 in that
instance.

Yes, I absolutely am OTHER than his use of 911, which I consider
indefensible.

>Let's assume for a moment he _was_ shoplifting something. How would the

They should then CHARGE HIM with shoplifting, which they refused to
do. He even ASKED them if they were doing so, and they wouldn't.

>This jerk was bascially saying once he gets out the door with something the

No, he absolutely was NOT saying that.

Gotta disagree...nobody's physical life was being threatened in any
way.

Which still doesn't make his situation an emergency.
