Hopefully Coughlin resigns next season to make room for Spags
takeover. I'm sure this "extension" is just the Giants management's
way of saying thank you and they would let Coughlin keep the rest of
the money as he leaves. |

I'd much rather have Spags as a DC ... Why tempt the Peter
Principle ?? |

Because how long do you think Spags will remain a DC? We should be
lucky only Washington had time to interview him this off-season. If a
decent job is open next year I will be really really surprise if Spags
doesn't jump on it. Especially if Spags has a repeat of his awesome
playing-calling for next season. |

Would our buddy down in Carolina that we let go have won us a Super
Bowl ??
Ray Handley was a great assistant ... but so were Tom Landry and Vince
Lombardi ...
Head coach and DC are totally different jobs ... I've seen the Peter
Principle in action too much ...
Coughlin is a damn good head coach ... You want him tossed and put an
albeit great (but one season) DC in his place ?
Do you draw on 19 when the dealer shows a ten ??? |

If he can get Eli to escape 3 DL and Tyree to make catches off his
head, why now?

Exactly, and correct me if I'm wrong but Fox also went to the SB once.

There are equally amount of success stories and unsuccessful ones. As
for Handley he's simply promoted too quick. He never really called
any shots, which is why Zorn will suffer the same.

Sure, you say that now.

Two seasons. The man's got to retire soon. You want Coughlin to
coach till he's 80?

Do you only look at what supports your argument and totally ignores
the one that don't? |

Your logic is tenuous at best.
You want to rush a coach to pasture who has proven he's good enough to win
a superbowl,
so that you can promote an assistant coach that might be.
I'm glad you're not in our front office.

I'm sure you made the same evaluation on Coughlin heading into 2007,
calling for patience and that Coughlin is a SB-winner. It's always
safer, more fun, to make comments on hindsight.
By your logic every SB-winning coach is better than anyone that hasn't
won a SB. I guess after Coughlin retires the Giants not offer the job
to Spags (if he's still around), but instead call Brian Billick.

Slow down, Chen. Dorgan was quite possibly Coughlin's biggest fan
around here.

Eli would have completed the 4th down play to Toomer ... You're in the
Patriots fans "Giants were lucky to win" camp now ???

Yep and when the novelty wore off ... sort of middle of the road ...

OK I'll keep TC and a DC that has had one excellent year ...

I've said that often ... once fora day or two when it appeared in
press reports that he lost the team ... last year ... I thought he
should go ... when it turned out it was rumors from anonymous
sources ... I was back on his side ... |

You know, if you really want to engage in a battle of football wits, I would
suggest picking an opponent less knowledgeable than Dorgan. A man's got to
know his limitations... |

As we know too often knowledge doesn't always translate into good
decisions (or in this case conclusions.) |

1) Nobody is a bigger Giants fan here than I am. This is why the
self-proclaim know-it-all "realistic" fans here frequently called me a
"homer"
2) With that said, the Giants won the SB with some luck involve. Or
if you don't like that word replace it with something more vague:
mojo, providence, whatever.

Yes, and Coughlin will just be a SB winner year in and year out after
this season right? Don't get me wrong, I hope he does. However, just
as in players if you have younger and possibly potentially better then
you go for the alternative (which is also why I wish Strahan retires
now for Tuck), I am just being consistent applying it to coaches.
