Javon Walker: Broncos are "not for me"
By Bill Williamson The Denver Post
Article Last Updated: 12/31/2007 11:11:42 AM MST
Javon Walker dropped the first bomb of the Broncos' offseason this morning.
In a rambling briefing with the press, Walker essentially said he longer
wants to be with the Broncos.
"It's not for Javon," Walker said. "It's not for me."
Walker bounced and back and forth and said that he'll do whatever the
Broncos decide but he concluded by saying that being here is not for him.
Walker even suggested a return to Green Bay. The Broncos acquired him from
the Packers in April 2006 for a second round draft choice.
Walker was unhappy with the Packers when he was dealt.
Walker missed seven games this season with a knee injury and second-year
player Brandon Marshall flourished, catching 1002 balls.
Walker has $5.4 million in option bonus money coming to him this year and
the team was planning on keeping him. However, after his bombshell, the team
will likely seriously consider parting ways.
He hasn't shown that he can stay healthy anyway. Plus, why keep any other
receiver around when Marshall can catch 1002 balls in one season? (I think
that was probably a typo, no?)

I'm getting real sick of Mighty BroncoLand New Years.
On the other hand, gates at Aloha Central will open at noon tomorrow with
the typical Blues, Brews, and BBQs going until the Sugar Bowl begins around
3:30. Any and all welcome.
For the no-shows, Merry New Year!

If a person doesn't want to be a Bronco, I wouldn't want them staying
around.

No doubt. It looks like the words of Rod Smith about losing what it means
to be a Bronco and a part of this team, a real team, went right over Javon's
fricken inflated head. Good riddance, J-Walk. Don't let the predominantly
orange door hit you on the way out.
And Happy New Year Jon and Raoul. |

I'm sure he's traumatized by the whole Darrent Williams thing. He may
want a new start, or maybe he wants to get away the gang that he and
his teammates had the altercation with. They have a history of
gunning down would be testifiers. Brandon Marshall may feel the same
way. |

Interesting insight.
My own thought was that he expects the Broncos to try to renogiate his contract
downward and he's trying to flank 'em first. |

Me too. Note that he said that it is the team's decision - implying
that if the team wanted to keep his contract, he was fine with it. |

I think by that it sounds like he means that it's the Bronco's
decision what to do with him. He'd like to go back to Green Bay, who
finished 13-3, but may end up in Miami, who finished 1-15. |

They obviously need to fumigate Dove Valley for Ash Lelie Disease. |

Wasn't it Walker who told Ashlie to hold out?

Ashley Lazy was out the door before Javon came to town.
If they had a convo, it was when Javon was still in Green Bay. |

Yeah, I know - but I do seem to remember that Lelie was working out with
someone in Arizona, and I think it was Walker prior to him (Walker)
signing.

Yeah, I was thinking both those same things myself. And contrast that with
Rod's words, or Matt's. |

I don't remember if it was Walker or not but you are right -- there was
someone he was talking to back then. |
