after watching wes welker eat up team after team this year i was
thinking maybe if we could use sproles the same way? he is extremely
quick and explosive, he is smaller, and getting the ball in his hands
like that well good things can happen. just running him underneath
over and over like the pats use welker.

Because sproles would get *CREAMED* on underneath crossing routes? Sproles
is like 5-6 (in heels maybe) 180(soaking wet, of course). Welker's got 3
inches and 15 pounds(?) on sproles...

Personally, I see eric parker being that man, not sproles. - a precise route
runner that can make the hot read inside from the slot.

Parker doesnt have that same explosiveness Sproles does and thats
where
welker excels imo. quick separation and then a juke here and there and
getting those extra yards. nothing against parker, whom ive always
like, but
dont think hes that same type of player. The point is that he might
get creamed
but if he doesnt get touched he is a threat to score everytime he gets
out in
the open with the ball.

I think Davis can be that player.

It's bizarre to me that it takes a receiver 2 - 3 seasons to figure out
which end is up. Maybe it's getting the timing down with the QB or not
being intimidated by the coverage or something. VJack looks like he's
coming around, hopefully Davis will this season, too.

I think we're going to have the best WR group this upcoming season than
we've had in a long time.

Sproles doesn't have the hands.

Every step a pro athlete takes (from high school to college, college to
pros) is like playing in an All-Star game every game. The step up to the
pros is even harder. Some guys are already at that level but most are left
with some catching up to do. VJ is definitely looking like he's catching
up, hopefully Davis will get there next season.

I think we did this year & agree it should be several degrees better in the
upcoming year.

>>Sproles doesn't have the hands.

Agreed, although he looked a lot more reliable this year than his earlier
days. Still, he's a RB/Return guy, not a Welker-type.

I've always seen EP as more in the Joiner mold. Makes tough catches over
the middle, takes the hits & is money on 3rd downs. Neither had the
quickness Welker has, but both are solid contributors with defined
specialties.

I hated it when we let Welker go, but it happened. He's a stud & also
benefits immensely from the cast around him. If NE had won, the only silver
lining for me would have been him & Junior getting rings. I'm sure he'll
get more chances, not so sure about Seau.

Rodney too.

BTW, imagine what our team's offense would be like if Welker were
still here.

Who would they cover?

generally people that return punts/kickoffs had pretty decent hands
no?
all i am saying it would be interesting if he could pull it out with
his explosiveness and
quick cutting.

Sproles has been notoriously questionable on his ball security on
punts. It seems like he's resolved it, but being an effective receiver
in the Welker mold is much more difficult than catching punts. Welker
catches balls in all sorts of weird positions. It's because of the
nature of the patterns he runs: those short double-move read and react
options. The QB and the receiver aren't going to be totally synched on
those types of patterns since it's an option for the receiver, so the
passes are going to show up in odd places compared to normal timing
routes.

Michigan should join the SEC In bowl games against the SEC: Michigan is 7-3; Ohio State is 0-9. Heck, if Michigan joined the SEC, they'd probably own the conference and finally be able to beat OSU!
