By Patrick Patterson
The talk of the NFL combine has been the status of Lane Kiffin’s job as
head coach of the Oakland Raiders. This saga has been a real drain on
the entire Raider Nation. The problem is that this has become one of
those stories where the story has taken on “legs” despite there being
nothing substantial behind it. In fact, the story itself has become the
story. Lane Kiffin is in Indianapolis doing his job, just as he was in
Mobile doing his job during the Senior Bowl. Today, Adam Schefter, the
NFL Networks False Rumor Mongerer said that it appears that Kiffin’s job
is safe, so maybe, just maybe this drama can be put to bed.
The speculation in this matter has reached such insane proportions that
Jerry Macdonald of the Oakland Tribune made it clear that when he
finally caught up with Kiffin he was not wearing Raider gear. What is
this the red carpet at the Oscars with Joan Rivers where the wardrobe is
what is to be reported on? Of course, no one seemed to mention that
several other head coaches were not decked out in team gear.
Lane Kiffin, Rob Ryan, and the Raiders organization have all said that
Kiffin is the head coach. What more could be done? Let the speculation
end, and let the Raider’ coaching staff and scouts decide who they want
to go after in the draft.

Hmm, that would seem to be what everyone said has not

Listening to Rob Ryan on the NFL radio the other day, he was talking
about all of the disinformation being published, including the report
that "he (Ryan) had been fired" at the end of the season.
Caveman reiterated that Kiffin was still head coach, and thought that
Mr. Davis was "having a little fun" with the media.
Al is working the press into a frenzy, and having a good time doing
it. After what the Chronicle said about him the other day (compared
to Fidel Castro) I can't say that I blame him.

More evidence that Ryan is a company (Al) guy. What a joke. As if it
would be a good thing that Al was playing such games.

If I was Al.. that is what I would do. I would run the press around
in so many circles that they would be unreadable. Actually, this
isn't far from reality now. |

It's kind of a convoluted way of doing business because it makes his
organization seem crazed... but I wouldn't put it past him!
It does seem strange that nobody that actually likes being a Raider is
complaining about it... the only person I've seen complain about how bad
an atmosphere it is... Porter.

We all have to work, even Al still puts in some long days. If you
don't mix a few laughs in all the money in the world is worthless.
Look at the way that the media has trashed this man for no reason
other than he doesn't feel like he has to share his business with
them. If I was him, I'd make it clear to everyone on the inside (ie
the people that matter) and then put the rest of the hacks on a
hamster wheel chasing anonymous sources around. Course, that is me
and I am a little too into having fun sometimes. |
