is it me or are there more helmets coming off during play this year. i had
already noticed this and then the whole foot stomp thing made me think of it
more. throughout the years it was only when a player like Hainesworth
literally ripped a helmet off that a player lost a helmet.i seem to be
seeing a helmet rolling around on everyother play. anyone got any info on
this or noticed the same thing. i've also seen it in college too, which
leads me to believe it has something to do with a new style of helmet that
the companies are making.

They are designed that way. It's either the helmet, or the head. "I'll
take the helmet for $1000, Alex!" Smile

well then its a new design. i wore football helmets for many years, the only
way a football helmet came off was if someone grabbed the facemask and tore
it off your head. they rarely if ever came off during a hit, so i guess that
is my question have they altered the design to cause them to come off under
certain pressures. others have responded that is has to do with chinstraps
but i don't think so.

I've seen 3 different helmet designs out there.

There's the classic one, which Merriman wears, but I've seen him lose his
helmet.

There's another design with ventilation holes on the top of the helmet and
what looks like a triangular ear hole.

There's also another design that is larger than the others and it has a
indentation going from the ear hole to the back of the helmet. This one is
supposed to be the newest design and lighter to help the players.

Wow, that must have gotten to be uncomfotable after awhile. Must have been
living in a rough neighborhood...

Take a look at McNabb tonight. He clearly has both sides of his upper
chinstrap undone and dangling down. Those things are on there for a
reason...

QB question I've always wondered about... If part of the technique of the defensive backfield is to "watch the quarterbacks' eyes" why don't QB's routinely wear dark colored visors on their helmets? It seems like a "duh" situation but I can't ever recall ever seeing a QB with one on. Thanks, Sam
