How would ya feel, if we traded Vilma for Shaun Rogers & a conditional pick... then
renegotiated DRob to a more favorable contract?
Thus, our DL would be Ellis, Rogers, and DRob.
Lots of rumors that Vilma is in Detroit today.
I can't see Vilma (even off an injury), straight up for Rogers, with his baggage.
So, I'd figure a conditional pick, depending upon how Vilma and/or Rogers performs.
DRob we can trade, or renegotiate.
I think if we acquired Rogers, DRob would be happier at DE, and more amenable to
renegotiating.
Thoughts?

Good one, Barf, proving the point that even a blind squirrel will
occasionally find his nuts.
In reality though, I haven't had any faith in Vilma for a couple of
years now, and unlike Mark, I wouldn't be inclined to keep him on the
starting roster of a 3-4 team. He's a soft player who made most of his
tackles from behind and far too often got run over, around and through.
If people didn't see that they must have been paying attention to a
different team than I.
And since I think that DRob was the best D-lineman we've had over the
past two years, I'd like the move RDE for him, especially if his
contract can be renegotiated. Then we can think about finding a bookend
LDE in the draft, because I think that Ellis now sees his better days in
a telescopic rear view mirror. |

I think the Jets get worse with that deal.
But I guess a lot depends on what they plan to do in the draft. If they
want Ellis or Dorsey, then keep Vilma. If they want Gholston, then maybe
that's not such a bad deal. |

I don't really disagree, but he'll be playing weakside ILB with Harris in
there now. It's a completely different position. In fact, Vilma will be
about the average size for one (and softness).

Ditto that. Although maybe it'd be better to try to trade Vilma for a LE so
then you wouldn't have to move Robertson. From what I hear, Baltimore's
going to look like a fire sale, so Trevor Pryce comes to mind (sorry
Harlan)...
