Given the report that Gregg Williams is about to join the defensive
staff, can you guys fill us in on what we can expect from him.

Does he play his corners tight to the WR or back?

Are his defenses generally better vs run than pass?

How are his defenses regarding forcing turnovers - do they generally
force many? Are the Redskins good at forcing fumbles as well as INT's?

Have the Redskins recorded any shutouts by the D, since he's been there?

How do his defenses fare against the top QB's over the years?

Blitzing??

Disguising defensive formations? Multiple looks?

And any other input you may have?

Thanks

Somebody needs to address how Washington ever got by with no pass rush.

Generally plays corners off.

A little bit better versus the run.

reply:
Williams' defenses are notoriously bad for forcing turnovers. Even
before he was in Washington. In 2006, the Redskins set the NFL record
for least forced turnovers in a 16 game season.

> Have the Redskins recorded any shutouts by the D, since he's been there?

reply:
I dunno, probably. Beating a team 17-10 when the offense is the chief
reason why 10 points were scored against you is good defense to me.

How do his defenses fare against the top QB's over the years?

reply:
They usually hold their own. In 2004, his defense was outstanding.
In '05, it was good. In '06, it went the complete opposite direction
and was terrible. In '07, it went back to being good.

> Blitzing??

reply:
He focused on coverage the last two years - very little blitzing.
Plenty of pressure his first season.

> Disguising defensive formations? Multiple looks?

reply:
One of the game's best.

reply:
He generally directs quality defenses. But the Jaguars already have
one - so this will be a new challenge for him. He's a guy that's
definatley looking for a head coaching job so he could be in Jax for
one season. He also has a tendancy to put a player in his dog-house
for unknown reasons. (Lavar Arrington, Adam Archuletta, David
Macklin). The doghouse with Williams means you don't get on the field
- ever - and you're probably gone the next season. Usually one player
per year finds himself there.

Otherwise, one of the game's best D-Coordinators and known for doing
his best work in his first year.

above average defenses that usually dont get turnovers and are among the
worst at getting sacks. Williams disguises defenses alot. So staying healthy
and knowing the system is big. (cliché) He'll blitz but its more to confuse
the QB than get sacks. At least it seems like they dont get sacks when they
blitz.
