For Jan 2008 we had 526 NG posts from a peak of ~11500 not too long
ago... Overall, 2007 was the worst year for this NG participation-
wise. Is it me or is this indicative of where our team is at or is NG
interaction a passing trend? I enjoy conversing with this NG; however
how many of us are going to be here next year? Perhaps this is
something to comsider from here on out....

I think it's safe to say that those that aren't here now who were here
when the Eagles were in the NFC Championship in consecutive years are
either fair weather band wagon fans or trolls. Look around you and take
note, the guys here now are the real fans....except for Postal69, he's a
die hard troll. It'll pick way up when the Eagles make the playoffs
again.

Where is JP? Is he MIA or has he finally realized this team will never win
a Superbowl?

Yeah, that's safe to say. But there's been an exodus generally away from
internet newsgroups and toward web-based (and moderated) forums. Even a
Super Bowl isn't going to generate the kinds of post numbers we've seen in
past years.
It's funny that the professional trolls, the deeply disturbed ones who want
nothing more than the attention of strangers, may be the root cause of the
growing silence around these parts. Their own activities have, in a sense,
killed the goose that laid those golden eggs.

IAWTP. Specifically for this NG, many previously frequent posters now
interact primarily via a FF forum. It's unlikely that they will
return here, regardless of the Iggs' record, except for the occasional
post now and then from AF, DPR, etc. Some of these guys I miss, some
not so much . Such is life; only change is a constant.

I think you're right about that. In the beginning there was very little
spam and mostly sincere posters...a true forum for exchange of discussion
between like-minded people. All were welcomed and encouraged...Then came
those lonely souls who wanted nothing more than to disturb others for
reasons that only they would know. It's pretty sad when you think about
it.

Exactly. Eight years ago, this was the only game in town. Now there is

Well... Is there an Eagles board that we should all join and stay in
touch with? Perhaps it is our answer to conversing together without
the spam. I am stil fine with this NG but wanted to suggest the
option. One thing we have here is that our group is smaller (minus the
trolls) and we know each other. It's just as easy logging in either
way... I did check out the Philadelphia Eagles board... Thoughts?

Yeah, it isn't just this usenet newsgroup, but a trend in usenet
overall. A lot of internet users don't even realize these exist.
Most people have discussions on web forums nowadays.
I don't post here much anymore, but it's not because I don't want to,
it's just that there's hardly anyone here anymore. I've registered on
the official Eagles forums, but I don't post there much either.
There's something about the fact that it's the official message board,
owned and operated by the Eagles, that I don't like. I like things
unbiased and uncensored, not run (and probably filtered) by Dave
Spadaro. Is there another good fan forum around? |

I absolutely agree with this post. There are soooo many positives to
joining a forum where the spam (and trolls) STOP! I do not know where
this forum exists but am willing to consider others suggestions. That
MI5 jackass pushed me over the edge (and there are others), but Postal
at least . Heck, Spike was proficient,
NFL-wise and could offer a different perspective. I just want to
discuss our team without all the bullshit. Is that too much to ask?

We're all still very much Eagles fans, thank you. It's just a helluva
lot easier to converse in troll-free waters than it is here, where you
have to navigate through mass-spamming, people bitching about air
quality, and some individual cluelessnes/self-love.
