"What we have learned over this year is that hope is making a
comeback. It is making a comeback. And let me tell you something --
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY ADULT LIFETIME, I AM REALLY PROUD OF MY
COUNTRY. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I
think people are hungry for change. And I have been desperate to see
our country moving in that direction and just not feeling so alone in
my frustration and disappointment. I've seen people who are hungry to
be unified around some basic common issues, and it's made me proud."
John Rogers

The Al Del Greco of Atlanta
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very
well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive,
we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build
your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a
gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will
follow ours." (General Sir Charles Napier)

Face it, being proud of this country over the last thirty years
is like being proud of the country in "Idiocracy." Pretty much
exactly like it.
Methinks you should probably put your smelling salts away, nut
up, and clue in a little. Just sayin'.

Well let's put your theory to the test. In the past thirty years, what
have we done? We've come to grips with our multi-cultural roots.
We've continued to improve interacial relations. We've brought access
to information to billions via the Intenet. We've tossed despots out
and made advances in terms of environmental conciousness (and I'm not
talking about global warming alarmism). There's been a spiritual
revival across America and we've made enormous strides in terms of
economic equalibrium with our closest allies across the Atlantic.
We've got a ways to go, but I wouldn't say that the last thirty years
were shamful ... |

Like I said. Idiocracy. To even imagine for a moment that it's
a spiritual revival that's happened required idiocy so extreme
it deserves applause. *applause*

That's a pretty fancy way of saying our standard of living has
declined relative to theirs!

I guess you wouldn't.
Here, let me spell it out for you:
Reagan Reagan Bush Clinton Clinton Gore Bush.
I rest my case.

Your rested case needs to be woken up.
Reagan wasn't the monster you imagine him to be, nor were any of the
above other than Bush Last. He doesn't get the credit/blame for the
last 30 years.

Nah...liberals like Bellomy secretly pine for the lifestyle of the
Parisian talking class. They envision their day sipping espresso in
sidewalk cafes while discussing Sartre. All those dirty little people
who do things like off-load their Kenyan coffee beans at Brest, unclog
their toilets and train the pigs to snuffle-out truffles are safely
out of sight. Let them enjoy their tractor-pulls, baseball and John
Wayne but let them do it someplace where their betters not be
inconvenienced.
And what keeps them from this lifestyle? Bauknight's Constitution
Butt-Wiping Phantoms and Bellomy's Make-Believe, Water-Boarding
Troglodytes.

"Articulate intellectuals affect the world solely by the use of
persuasive communications. They produce nothing material such as food,
clothing or shelter. They do not organize or manage production or

they talk. They express. They influence the world by altering the
behavior of those who do all the things that articulate intellectuals
do not."

Another thought is that the 30 years you fault coincides with the rise

If I and my spouse had law degrees from Harvard, a million dollar
income, a huge beautiful home I would think I would have been "proud
of America" before today. Maybe I'm easier to please than Mrs.
Obama? Maybe Mrs. Obama isn't "proud" beacuse she and her husband

Harvard law degree with a million dollar income can claim she hasn't

As much as I detest the draft dodger (ref: the subject line) I have to
give the devil his due.
Even though he is a coward, a liar and morally corrupt he balanced the
budget (sorta) and I don't remember having to give blood to the IRS
along with my taxes.
That said, liberals are still the worst terrorists we face.

Um, Grand Wizard Sullivan? Liberalism crested in 1964. It's been
a steady diet of conservative rule ever since. You can kinda, you
know, check the election results and see that.
