Musical acts standing the test of time, or wimping out?

Musical acts that have lasted, gotten grammy noms etc. But the
question is, did they start off relevant and cowtow to the industry,
or did they get better with age? Discuss the following:

Foo Fighters: Monkey Wrench----The Pretender
Red Hot Chili Peppers: Sock on the jock---Played on all the HotAC
stations
Beastie Boys: Banned from Lincoln, NE---Veteran artists with cred
Green Day: Naked on stage and high as a kite---Political commentary
of American Idiot
Weird Al Yankovic: Weird---Weird with some musical talent

All of the above had pretty meager beginnings, made it huge, and then
seemed to become a staple over time.

I still think they kick ass, but hey, that's just me.

They have definitely pussified over the years. Heck, my 46-year-old
sister likes them and didn't during their tube sock days.

out of this list I still love the beastie boys the most. all the
others i can take or leave.

I do too, but there is no question they are trying to create "epic"
songs right now. Starting with Times Like These and The Best of Me.

I was only okay with them back then. I think they've really toned it
down, but at the same time managed to remain pretty musical. I think
my favorite album is Californication which is after they toned it
down.

seems like they are getting a lot of nods from current artists, but
maybe that's just my preception.

I put him in there for fun. What started off as just fun for him
turned into a franchise, and yet, it's still fun for him. Go figure.

DOA, though.... that song is still, by far, my favorite. The drums are
too amazing...just the whole composition of the song. (I can't explain
it really.)

I love the Foo. I think they are the best ppure rock band out there right
now. Their live shows are awesome.

Who are you? And, have you been around here lately?

I ask because of "recent" (starting in August) posts I have made about
my physical condition. I need to know how much I have to fill you in
on. There are three options - dying (your unspoken one), getting ill
and (just) getting older. My 68 year old father is, in most ways,
better off physically than I am because I'm sick and he's not.

I feel *old* because I could not identify anything that the Foo
Fighters have done. RHCP would be problematic. Beastie Boys, just
the really old stuff. Green Day, not so much (probably just Good
Riddance). Weird Al, just the pre-1990 stuff (at one point I had
every Weird Al album). I thought I'd be hip forever, but (new) music
has passed me by.

I'm aware of your condition. Getting older while being ill is still
getting older. It's a binary system: you either conntinue to age or you
do not continue to age. What happens during either option is secondary.

How is your recovery going? I wish you well with that.

Well, it's going. Kind of.

I really need to make an update post. Of course, things are so in
flux that it's hard to do. I'll probably get one out before the end
of the month.

Thank you. Just knowing that people care enough to send their best
wishes helps a lot (there was an article on msnbc.com that reported a
study that indicated that actual outcomes were affected).

Yep...I saw them many years back with the RHCP. Dave Grohl climbed up
the seats where I was sitting grabbed a guys beer, chugged it and then
spit it out all over us. Not my favorite moment of the show, but it
still kicked ass.

Brent, I believe I saw a recent post asking this particular poster
where he had been - making it possible that he hadn't been around for
any of my announcements.

I have tumors.

They aren't quite cancer, but medically lay people (and, frankly, many
of the doctors as well) call it "cancer" for short hand.

So, I have "cancer." It was discovered when I went into the ER on
July 31st with very bad left side pain. The pain was from kidney
stones, but when they did the confirming CT scan for that, they
discovered this as well.

It had spread from my pancreas to my liver. I had an operation on the
27th of September to remove the main tumor, a liver tumor, my spleen,
my gall bladder and to fry (Radio Frequency Ablation) several of the
other liver tumors. there are still tumors left.

I then had a pretty bad post-op infection. See

It's even kind of On Topic as I was watching OU vs ISU when the
incision blew.

Once that was vanquished, I was supposed to heal up in preparation for
oncology to set up a treatment regimen. However, during January, a
spot developed on my chest at the top of the sternum incision (my
torso now has a giant Mercedes-Benz TriStar or, as my buddies call it,
flux capacitor carved on it) that turned red, scabbed over and then
opened up as an open wound.

I had an oncology appointment the day after the Super Bowl and the
oncologist said it was more aggressive than we thought (keep this in
mind for when I post the new update). And, that basically brings you
up to speed (at least as far as I have previously posted here) on what
I'm talking about.

Musical Performers that.. You'd rather switch radio stations than listen to: 1) Hall and Oates. I can't really describe why, but I just can't stand any of their music. 2) Bruce Springsteen. I realize he's popular, but I just don't get it. I find his music annoying, at best. 3)
