After final bid Tuesday, bowl panel

ARLINGTON – Six months of hard work, back-
room deals and civic cheerleading have all led
up to a 20-minute, high-stakes sales pitch of
a lifetime.

Two of the Dallas Cowboys' biggest names –
retired quarterback Roger Staubach and owner
Jerry Jones – will have less time than it takes
to play a half of football to land Super Bowl XLV.

The face-to-face presentation Tuesday at the
Loews Vanderbilt Hotel in Nashville, Tenn., will
give North Texas its first chance ever to host
America's most popular and lucrative sporting
event.

"All I know is it's going to be short and sweet."
Mr. Staubach said last week. "We're limited in
what we're going to be able to do at that meet-
ing. The good news is they're going to make
the decision that day. We'll know Tuesday
if we have it or not."

....

The only barriers are a room full of NFL team
owners, and the cities of Indianapolis and
Glendale, Ariz., which are also seeking the
2011 Super Bowl.

....

[North Texas Bid]

Texas Christian University in Fort Worth was
recommended as the practice facility for the
AFC, which would stay at the Omni, a conven-
tion center hotel under construction in down-
town Fort Worth.

Billy Bob's Texas is the recommended site
for the media party.

The NFC representative could practice at the
Cowboys' Valley Ranch facility in Irving and
stay at a Las Colinas hotel.

Arlington would host the game, "all game-day
hospitality" and the credentials center. Produc-
tion staff would probably be housed in some
of Arlington's limited-service hotels.

....

Mr. Staubach said he hopes the presentation
will go well enough to not only land the 2011
Super Bowl but also put the new Cowboys
stadium in a regular rotation for the big game,
which usually includes warm-weather cities like
Miami and New Orleans.

"I'm hoping Dallas will not only have a chance
at this one and, if we do what we're capable
of doing, we'll get a chance to do it again," he
said. "There's not a city that we've talked to
that would not want to have the Super Bowl
back."

Staff writers Rick Gosselin and Bruce
Tomaso contributed to this report.
