Overwhelmingly, my students have loved the "potential terrorist part
of school bombing" moral dilemma I stole from this newsgroup. It's
created some tremendous discussions.
They've liked all of them, actually...but that one has definitely
gotten the most praise.
If anybody's got any more, bring them on.

I don't remember that scenario. Who offered that one up?

Both, I made it a two-parter. First the scenario of the
maybe-terrorist being tortured and fessing up the name of the school,
with children saved. Agree, disagree, or somewhere in between with
the actions of the anti-terrorism unit?
Then, the maybe-terrorist dies due to wounds inflicted by the torture
and it comes to light that he had nothing to do with the terrorism and
was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Pure blind dumb luck
that he gave the name of the right school and he only gave that name
because he wanted the torture to stop. The authorities charge the
members of the anti-terrorism unit involved with murder. Agree,
disagree, or somewhere in between with the actions of the authorities?

It was actually an argument we were having in the newsgroup (if I
remember correctly, Jim Gysin started it). Then it was embellished
when I asked for scenarios.

OK, since the latter one was mine, how did that one go over?

Should have tortured him for some winning lottery numbers too. |

Anytime.
I'm glad you were able to comprehend my ideas and put them to use.
Great thing I thought of it.

Cool! I saw the start of the thread, but it ended up (along with a lot
of others) being subjected to the "Mark Read" function when I (once
again) fell way behind.

That's what I was saying...the two of them in combination (as a
two-parter, if you will) is what went over so well. After the first
part, I asked their stance and we discussed it for a while. Then I
hit them with part two, and we got to talk about THAT and the
implications of it.

I acted like it was mine, though. Was that so wrong of me?
