"An NFL source said that John Palermo, who coached at Notre Dame in 1988-89
when Redskins executive vice president Vinny Cerrato was the recruiting
coordinator, will be hired as Washington's defensive line coach, filling the
void created by Greg Blache's promotion to defensive coordinator last month.
Palermo, now at the University of Miami, has coached in bowls in 17 of his
27 seasons. He coached Big Ten Defensive Players of the Year Erasmus James
and Wendell Bryant at Wisconsin and Lombardi Trophy winner Chris Zorich,
later a Redskin, at Notre Dame. Palmero was head coach at Austin Peay in
1990."
A buddy of Cerrato's now? Looks like he's going to have insinuated his
former associate into the D just as a head coach salts his roster with his
former players! Gee, what's a new head coach going to DO with Cerrato in
that role he's got going too???? Any HC can't be expected to be much of a
CEO *now*, can he???

An interesting sidelight to this all is that shortly after Greg Blache was
made the team's new OC in January, there was an announcement that Blache's
long-time partner in crime, Larry Brooks, would be hired and replace him as
DL coach. Then, that fell through--and now a Cerrato protege is suddenly set
to replace Greg in that role. And, although the guy is no novice at coaching
DLs, he has *no*--that's N-O--previous NFL experience to go by. How they
ever got him to come has got to be a mystery beyond belief.

Let's just hope that now that Vinnie is "on the clock" these decisions
suddenly have some accountability. I'm not holding my breath, I'm just
sayin' ...
