there is a (hopefully) cheap guard for a year or 2, who is a cap casualty,
not an injury concern and who will likely provide us with some stability.

Yeah I caught that, looks like he might be a good catch. Personally, I think
we can go a lot further, a lot faster with pickups like this than with draft
choices. Draft choices generally don't pan out for a couple years (there are
always exceptions), but pickups like this can make a difference this season,
proven veterans with gas in the tank looking for a home. We could probably
sign him to a short contract at a decent price, he gets the benefit of
coming to a quality contender that everyone knows is gonna push hard for a
record season next year. |

Which of course is a perfect reason for the Seahawks NOT making the effort,
what the hell, it makes sense...

Not so fast, they got Kerney, Peterson, etc. This management has shown a
willingness to go get some veterans. I like this guy too, I think we should
give him a look! We also have some FA's of our own up front don't we?

Other than our play book, is there a steep learning curve for this
position that would take time to develop or should he be pretty much a
shoe in?

Also intriguing is Dan Morgan. If he hadn't spent half his career on
the injured list he would be an obvious (to me) target. Still, a one
year, incentive-laden contract is something I would at least consider,
and of course Tatupu would be moved to the outside.
And yes, I realize that I am alone in this opinion. |

I would be concerned that we'd lose Tatupu's football savvy if we moved him
out of the middle because he calls all the defensive formations and gets
everybody aligned from the MLB position. He sees the field of play so
intuitively and that is one of his greatest strengths. I'm not so sure we
wouldn't lose some of that savvy if we moved him to an outside position
where he wouldn't be able to see the offensive set as well as he does from
the MLB position and therefore wouldn't be able to make the calls as
accurately as he does now.
Just my 2 cents.

He was a Panther Pickup from GB, we looked at him pretty hard back in 05,
he's WCO familiar, been to the PRO bowl once in the last few years and an
alternate one other time. Solid player all the way around from what I can
see, with no character issues that have ever come up from anything I've
looked at. These are the type of players that we can pick up at a bargain
and could easily turn into an all-star squad. There are several teams that
are shuffling up the mix this off season, and a lot of players like this
that are gonna be looking for new homes. Yeah, we have FAs of our own to
worry about, and I do worry about possibly losing some of them, but our Cap
is gonna be pretty tight this year, and a few of these players might be
willing to go for short-term "proofing" contracts, or backload a decent
longer term contract, instead of all the upfront money that so many
Star-names command/demand. I seriously feel that if we can keep our defense
largely intact, and get some beef into our o-line and maybe pickup a good
all around blocking/catching/running TE. we'll be set to make a good strong
run next year.
