IRVING -- Left tackle Flozell Adams received a $500,000 bonus for making the
Pro Bowl. He was the only one of the 13 Cowboys who played in the NFC's
42-30 victory Sunday to have a Pro Bowl incentive in his contract.

Now, Adams is waiting to see if the Cowboys are going to pay him for the
future. He could become an unrestricted free agent Feb. 28.

The Cowboys might put a franchise tag on him (they have until Feb. 21) to
keep him for another year until they can groom his replacement. Or they
could sign him to a long-term extension or let him become a free agent. The
latter is unlikely.

Spagnola wrote about why this is not such a good idea. The franchise
tag means you give hima 1 year contract with a value that is
determined by the contracts of the other tackles in the league. Since
its a 1 year deal whatever you give him hits the CAP this year. In
Adams's case, the CAP hit would be close to $9 million which is about
half of what the Cowboys have left under the CAP. There are other
contracts to do plus they have to allow for the draft picks.

While I feel strongly that the Cowboys should sign Adams, they are
probably better off giving him a 3 or 4 year deal with a signing
bonus prorated over the 3 or 4 years. That will reduce his CAP impact
this year.

You know its gettin' bad, when the first time an OT false starts in
the Pro Bowl, I could say w/o looking that it was Flozell (this while
Tony was QB and Gurode at C).

I think Jerry should re-sign Flozell, maybe he needs an incentive in
his contract that says if he keeps his false starts under X, he get $Y?

Great idea Fred but what might be a better idea is the get a
concentration coach (seriously) to help these guys with their
concentration (might help TO on drop passes too).

Are there coaches who specialize in teaching a grown man how to count
to two?

Kind of clever I guess, but there are seriously people who trained
executives and high-placed people on things like organizational skills
and the ability to concentrate

There are many highly intelligent, highly skilled people who lack
organzational skills or the ability to concentrate
