The NFL should induct both Reggie White and Pat Tillman to the Hall of Fame
this upcoming year. White is a first ballot anyway, and Tillman on bravery,
courage and patriotism.

Personally I don't think someone deserves to be in the Hall Of Fame just
because they decided to join the army. But thats just my opinion.
Reggie I'm sure will be at some point.

reggie white was truly a mega-star of a defensive end. a record setter
and gentleman competitor. as far as pat tillman, to say he just quit to
join the army seems almost insulting. and to prove that opposite i will
use the liberals tool of justification. it is this, [it is how that
individual feels about any situation that is the correct way to appaise
their actions]. pat tillman publicly stated he fell a strong call of
duty to defend his country after the 9/11 attack on the usa. so he quit
a high paying and glamourous job just to join the army hunh? both men
posessed the highest of character and both should be inducted into the
next hall of fame in addidition to the normal number of candidates. |

White is eligible for 2006 induction. Personally, I don't
see any reason to rush him in early just b/c he passed away.
Tillman.
HOF induction is for on-field accomplishments, and Tillman's
carrer wasn;t long enough to qualify. The NFL recognizes
that there is more to just on-field performance and honors
those players in the proper way, The Football and America
exhibit in this case.
The Football and America exhibit at the HOF was reinstalled
almost solely in his honor. The F&A exhibit features over
1,200 players who interrupted or delayed their pro football
careers to serve their country as members of the armed
services, and features a shine exclusive to Tillman.
To induct him into the HOF doesn't properly recognize his
actions. The NFL realizes this an honors him in the proper
way. |

No, Tillman should not get in based on military service. |

Agreed. But it would be nice for the HOF to have a display in his honor
in Canton.

I agree completely. If you start making exceptions where do you stop.

I agree with this also, nothing more to add. |

Agreed. And Larry Allen should make it to the HOF *solely* for totally
dominating Reggie White 100% of the time.

Yeah, right. Ask Troy if that's true. |

That's because the Eagles scrambled his brains so many times, he doesn't
remember. He had to look up Reggie's picture on NFL.com this morning. He
thought the name sound familiar. |

Better separate your praise of Reggie between his legacies on the football
field and off.
No question about his football prowess and his place in the Hall.
But he was a borderline racist and an unquestioned homophobe - wrongly
insulating those positions on the basis of his zealot's self-righteous
"mandate from God" - with several financial ambiguities in his
background - questions about the funds for his destroyed church in TN, for
example - that severely call into question your assertion about his
possessing "the highest of character" off the field.
A great football player, but also an unfortunate post-football career
legacy. "High Character" is not a requirement for the former.

They do.
The Football and America exhibit has come & gone, and since
come back again this year... largely in part due to
Tillman.
Included in the exhibit is a special tribute to former
Arizona Cardinals safety Pat Tillman.
Tillman’s Cardinals jersey and his Rangers uniform are
featured in the exhibit along with a video taped interview
with the former player discussing his feelings after the
9-11 attacks. |

Plenty of players joined after Pearl harbor. Some died and others spent
long years as POWs. Still others served very well and made it through
OK. I don't know how many made the HOF on the strength of it, some
might have.
Some of the '41 Eagles went to WW2. There was a story on it in the
Inquirer a while back. |

Larry Allen will make it, but what's the point of mentioning it here?
