Question
Kevin, sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm curious what the plans
are for the right side of the O-Line? Do you think Olivea will be moved
inside and is Clary a long term solution at tackle? I still like the way
Goff plays at guard, but I wonder what the coaches think. Will age come into
play as Goff is 32 and Olivea is only 26? Does Clary have the body type that
will allow him to put on more weight and be productive? Thanks as always for
your reply.
OC season ticket holder / Foothill Ranch, Ca
Answer
The plan for '08, I am told, is status quo.
Long-term, Olivea could move inside (now, whether he wants to do that is
another story). Goff is likely done as a Chargers after this season. He will
be 33.
Clary can get better and be an adequate RT. Olivea has a chance to earn back
his spot, but he has some work to do.
They will also draft this year and/or next for depth an competition.

Question
Why in the world would the Chargers even consider not re-signing Lorenzo
Neal?
Eddie / San Diego
Answer
Here is why the Chargers are considering releasing Neal:
He's 37, has lost a step, is in an offense that doesn't use the FB a whole
lot and there is a younger and cheaper guy on the roster.
They would like to keep him, but in a reduced role. He doesn't want to be in
a reduced role.
(And it's not re-signing him, he is under contract through 2010.)

Question
Kevin, how feasible is it for a WR to cross over and play cornerback? I
mean, K.O. is fast and hits like a tank, but doesn't have the hands to get
much play time on the offense. If he can be as ready as a rookie CB would be
with one offseason to adjust, would he not be able to plug a hole (avoiding
a free agent signing or use of the team's only first-day pick) and increase
his own field time?
Matt / North Park
Answer
Kassim does not want to do that, the Chargers don't want him to do that, it
is not going to happen.
The Chargers are perfectly happy with Kassim in his current role.
It's a little late to teach him a new position at this level. It's not high
school or even college. We're talking about a guy in his sixth season.

Question
Do you think the chargers should pick up a free agent wide reciever next
season for more depth ? And if so ,who do you think would be the most likely
fit for us ?
Donald K. Losino / Lodi
Answer
No. Of all the positions they don't need depth ...

Question
Hi Kevin, the key question for the offseason what will the Chargers do with
the most cap room of any team in the league, any chance for any unrestricted
free agent, who's getting a long term deal?, I'm guessing Philip Rivers is
priority one to get a deal before the start of training camp?
Sergio Quintero / Tijuana, Mexico
Answer
They don't have the most cap room of any team.
And don't look for a huge FA signing.
As I have stated, they need to be setting up for deals in the next two years
with Rivers, Merriman, McNeill, Castillo, Jackson and Cromartie.

Question
Hi Kevin:
I know this has been a popular subject, but I would like to get your opinion
on how losing two players like McCree and Neal is going to affect the
Chargers this coming season. It's been made clear why they are leaving
however can this team really afford to lose more veteran leadership?
Doug / Fallbrook, CA
Answer
Don't always assume a veteran is a leader or that he can't be replaced.
I like both of those guys and see merits of keeping them and letting them
go. Bottom line is that both can be replaced.

Question
The NFL's contract to stage the Pro Bowl at the Aloha Bowl is soon set to
expire. Should the NFL consider exporting the Pro Bowl overseas in addition
to a regular season game to help generate global interest? I think that an
NFL All Star game might even generate more interest than a regular season
game if fans knew they would have a chance to see the league stars in a game
that might be more exciting because of the trick plays and exaggerated
offense that yesterday's contest featured.
John / San Diego
Answer
They have floated the overseason idea. But one problem the commissioner
addressed about Hawaii was that more than a dozen players skip the Pro Bowl
each year anyway, citing injury. But the reality is that Hawaii is a long
way to go, especially for players that live on the East Coast.
Think about it being in Tokyo or London or Paris.
I think the more likely scenario is playing it in the week between
Championship games and Super Bowl.

Question
Kevin,
Any good rumors involving the Chargers making the rounds? I have heard a
ridiculous one where the Bolts go after Brian Dawkins and Asante Samuel.
Ben / Chula Vista
Answer
That is ridiculous.

Question
Is Anthony Waters, a threat to take away Matt Wilhelm's position. I think i
saw him play one game at Clemson against Florida State and he looked like a
beast. I can't say for sure since i really only follow the PAC 10. He sort
of reminds me of a more nimble and faster Steve Foley. Of course he also
wears his old jersey #53. It obvious that the coaches think highly of him.
thoughts? Thanks for your time.
Gene Dulay / Otay Ranch
Answer
I think he is a threat. Rivera will say only that all positions are open for
competition. But c'mon, Stephen Cooper isn't losing his job.
Wilhelm improved, but he is not a lock to continue in that spot, especially
if Waters can step up.
