Question
Kevin,
There has been some speculation on various websites that Oliver, whom you
have written as projected to safety, will still end up as a CB nickelback,
that the Chargers are really interested in drafting a pure safety (not a
CB), and that A.J. is simply providing you with disinformation on his real
intentions for the draft. Do these bloggers have a point? Thanks.

Marcel / University City

Answer

No.

Two things: My info on this did not come from AJ, and if it did, people will
maybe someday relaize that AJ does not play games.

Question
Kevin,
Do you believe that Chargers can sign Merriman, Castillo, Rivers, Mcneil &
Jackson after 09 season? Who do you out this group won't get sign?

Brian / Toronto, Ontario Canada

Answer

Well, I guarantee someone is getting franchised.

I believe they think Merriman will be the most difficult to sign. Castillo
could be the easiest, but he might also be the most expendable (difficult
for me to say, since he is one of the finest individuals I have ever known.)

Question
Kevin, you recently mentioned Paul Oliver being redirected toward Safety
for next season in one of your columns. Could you elaborate?
What caused the staff to see him there instead of CB where he was drafted?

Gary Molyneux / Fontana CA

Answer

They always knew it was a possibility. They don't believe he has the burst
to be a corner.

SDUT: Chargers mailbag (Feb. 5, 2008) Question Kevin I know AJ Smith is not a big player in free agency -- plus a majority of the $35-40m in cap space should be spent on Merriman, Castillo, VJ, etc. But without a 2nd and 3rd rounder and possibly only the comp pick in the 4th round - do you se
