I really liked Jeremy Shockey and wasn't sure what to make of his
whole "I'm training hard in FLA" routine. One thing was clear - he was
way too happy hanging out in a luxury box than on the field with his
team. I'm not even sure it was his team any more. What teammate would
even think of not being there on the sidelines? In the Super Bowl?
Unheard of.
As much as I didn't like hearing it, perhaps the Giants really are
better dropping him as they did the big TV whiner with the pearly
whites. The synergy that existed with them out and the team playing
unified was overwhelming and rather telling. Perhaps we can trade this
big mouth.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Eli's turn-around began right when
Shockey went down. They might get maximum value for him now if his injury
isn't that serious. Trade him by all means. |

Bear fan here, congrats on your victory and making the NFC proud.
Was it your backup tight end who caught that 45 yard pass on the Giants
first possesion in the 3rd quarter? And Tyree the other tight end who
caught that unbelievable pass when Eli scrambled from a near sack? Trade
Shockey and save the cap money for other needs.
With shockey's personality I can picture him whining in Eli's ear to throw
him the damn ball like Keyshawn johnson. It is no coincidence Eli started
playing better after Shockey got injured. |

This is what the super bowl MVP says about it:
That success has led to a popular theory that the Giants are actually better
off with Shockey out of the lineup, that somehow Eli Manning has emerged as
a leader because the always emotional tight end is no longer screaming in
his ear.
"That's a stupid theory," Manning said. "We've missed him greatly. He's a
great player. He's made big plays for us. He's someone who's been a great
emotional leader on the field."
Or if you don't believe that, how about Mike Pope the guy who coaches both
Boss and Shockey day in and day out:
"You take a four-time Pro Bowler out of your roster, you've got to be a
little off center to say that would be advantageous," Pope added. "Why you
would ever say a team would be better without a player who has a very, very
strong, proven record? He's not detrimental to Eli's growth in any way,
shape or form. I think it's ludicrous to think Eli would've got worse had
Jeremy been here."
Pope actually seemed to get upset at "the narrow-mindedness of that
thinking," and went so far as to say, "This is a game where he'd factor in."
Several players expressed similar disgust as well, especially since former
Giants quarterback Tim Hasselbeck has given credence to the theory several
times in the last few weeks on radio and TV.
END.
Ok Eli Manning just called your theory "Stupid"
The Guy who coaches both Boss and Shockey day in and day out just said the
theory is "off-center" "ludicrous" and "narrow minded". That you can't be
right "In any way, shape or form".
But i'm the illogical one. Yep. Me, Mike Pope and Eli.
You lookin to marry a former "Survivor" contestant also? |

heh, what do you expect them to say? Not everyone is Tiki Barber, and he
held his beliefs til after he called it quits. |

Yes and no.
Boss is the back up tight end who caught that key 45 yard pass. Tyree is
not a tight end. He is a wide receiver and special teams ace (having
previously made the pro bowl for his special teams' play). |

The reason that theory is popular is because it's true.
When Shockey was out of the lineup, the team was better. Look at the
scoreboard. It doesn't lie. |

In my corner Eli Manning, The Giants TE coach. In your corner Chen, soot and
Matt Hasselbach.
The Guy who coaches the Giants TE's just called you and everyone else who
has this opinion a nut job. Case closed....AGAIN. |

Those guys *have* to say that. Can't be throwing a teamate under the
bus.
BTW, you are what the scoreboard says you are. Giants were a far
better team w/out Shockey. |

The Giants won the superbowl without your son on the field Mister Shockey
Sr.. Lastly as I stated, I am a Bear fan, so I didn't follow your sons
team until the Superbowl.
I saw CNN clips of the parade. Was your gimped son on the float? |

you seem to be taking this Shokey thread a bit personal.
I wager you are related to him in blood. It's okay to vent Mister Shockey
Sr., you are just being a protective parent. |

He was on crutches and as Brian pointed out, it was unsafe for him to be
on the sidelines.
He was down there before the game.

The same 90% that was glad the Giants lost Barber and considered the
Giants doomed without the league's top all-purpose yards gainer.

I have nothing against Shockey, I love him as a player too. But I'm
sold more on the team chemistry argument. So my argument is never
that Boss vs. Shockey, but Shockey vs. team chemistry.
Like I said, maybe Shockey will flip a switch in his head and realized
he should direct his macho-man stunts to opponents only and not his
own teammates, especially Eli.
