Shapiro:
"If the internet had been around in 1981, what do you think the reaction
might have been to a virtually unknown San Diego assistant coach?"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
At the time it was Cooke deciding either Pardee or Beathard. He decided
on Beathard and BB brought in Gibbs. Zorn is about as unknown here as Gibbs was back
then, except for the fact that some of us knew him as the Seahawks QB in the '70's
and '80's. Most of us already know what Fassel did with the Giants and Ravens.
Same with Pardee with the Redskins back then. And yet the "virtually unknown" Zorn won
out with most of the fans. So Shapiro, the fans would have done the same thing on
the internet back in '81 if it was Pardee. The only difference now was that most
wanted GW instead of Fassell. Would GW still had been the overall fan favorite if Zorn
were in contention earlier? Probably. But Shapiro's quote was about Fassel, not GW.
