This is from Matt Barrows' blog:

Team tenders tight end Billy Bajema
The 49ers tendered a contract offer today to their lone restricted
free agent, tight end Billy Bajema. The tender is the lowest one
possible, meaning that if another team were to steal him away, the
49ers would be compensated with a seventh-round pick, which was
Bajema's draft position in 2005. One long-time 49ers observer -- he
shall remain nameless -- insists that when Bajema came trotting onto
the field this past season, it was a sure sign that something bad was
going to happen. He was like William H. Macy in "The Cooler." Maybe
that's because Bajema's presence was a tip-off that the 49ers were
going to run. After all, Bajema has gone without a single reception in
each of the last two seasons ...

Davis is "supposed" to be a good blocker, but he made enough errors to
negate that asset. He's also supposed to be a good pass catcher, but
I've yet to see that consistently.

There's also the fact that the tight ends had to stay in to block
because the offensive line stunk up the place. I wonder if it wouldn't
be better to draft a couple of big tight ends further down in the
draft and unload Walker and Bajema? Tendering him for a seventh round
pick works in the direction as well. If someone wants him, the Niners
get the pick.

I don't like the move ..let'em go .. on the other hand he doesn't make much
... but the only thing he can do is block.
