His sentencing is Monday. I have a feeling
he gets less than a year. In fact I say
about 6 months. Puts him right back
in time for a final mini camp and the
start of training camp.
Watch.

Everyone knows Tony Nichols is completely out of his mind.
Vick will *never* play in the NFL again. |

Legal experts predict at least a 24 month sentence and he still faces felony
charges in Virginia. Vick is toast. |

I personally feel that federal judges are lightweights when it comes to
sentencing in federal cases, EXCEPT if the charges are drug related
(which, IIRC, have mandatory sentencing guidelines), since no
Presidential administration likes to be seen as "soft on drugs".
I don't think Vick'll get ANYWHERE NEAR as long a federal sentence as he
will get from the state judicial system. I think the state judicial
system is going to throw the book at Michael Vick. IF the feds choose
to hand down a long, long sentence, it'll be done with the intent of
making an example out of Vick (something I'm not too particularly fond
of, for the record), but when the incredibly long STATE sentence comes
down, it'll be because Vick deserved it, IMNSHO.
Oh, and as far as the NFL is concerned?? I think Vick's playing days in
the NFL are over. Period. I think that he will turn out to be sort of
the Pete Rose of football.

No. The judge gave 18 months to some of the lessers.
He's going to throw the book at him and Vick might never see freedom
again in the time frame that he would play in the NFL.
He plays next year, and I'm probably going to go to prison.

I doubt he will do more then 6 months regardless of the sentence. The VA
charges will be easy to handle without jail time given his first sentence.
I don't think he will be back with the Falcons, but he may play again in the
NFL two seasons from now. Depends on public opinion. He needs to hire
himself a PR crew and show lots and lots of himself kissing stray puppies.
He can dump lots of cash into animal welfare programs and buy himself an
endorsement from one of the humane groups. People are stupid enough to buy
it. I'd say he has a 30 % chance of playing again in the NFL if he handles
the next two years properly. If he isn't active and successful at
convincing people he'd rather feed staving dogs instead of electrocute them,
he is indeed as you put it... Toast. I will never enjoy watching him play.
The sort of stuff he was into is just too ugly.

I said in a different post somewhere in this newsgroup that I thought
Vick would receive a light sentence from the federal judge. Now,
though, after reading the above artice (from a Roanoke, VA television
station), I'm not so sure...
> Doubt it, I think the other dudes that pled guilty got more than 20
> months each, and they cooperated with the authorities.
>
> Dan D
> Central NJ USA
According to: http://snurl.com/1uynn (Sports Illustrated)
"U.S. District Court Judge Henry E. Hudson sentenced two of Vick's co-
defendants, Purnell Peace and Quanis Phillips, to longer prison
sentences than federal prosecutors had recommended. Peace will serve 18
months, while Phillips will serve 21 months. In exchange for the
defendants' cooperation, prosecutors had recommended that each receive a
sentence consistent with the lower end of the federal sentencing
guidelines (12 to 18 months for Peace; 16 to 24 months for Phillips)."
In another related development, Vick's property in Surry, VA, where the
dogfighting occurred, will be auctioned a week from today on 12/15.
http://snurl.com/1uynk (Atlanta Journal-Constitution... and the story
was posted yesterday, FYI)
I'm finding this development funny for some odd reason. I think it
might be because people have been known to say something to the effect
of: "Damn... karma's a bitch, ain't it?" in situations like these, and I
can't think of a more appropriate statement right now.

You're forgetting that Vick violated his plea agreement and kept information
from the government for which the Judge intends to increase the punishment.
The prosecutor is Virginia is determined to give him an even longer
sentence. I don't see Vick every playing in the NFL after serving years
behind bars. |

It's no such much being out of his mind as being mentally challenged . . . |

There are mandatory sentencing guidelines in place for offenses other
than those that are drug related. |
