Heard on the radio that C John Wade will be testing the Free Agent
market after the Bucs showed no interests in resigning him prior to
March 1st.
Interesting. Looks like Matt Lehr has the inside track for the
starting Center spot this year. Maybe a first day draft or early
second day for the C spot?

As I speculated a couple months ago, the Bucs apparently see Buenning
as the stater at center. Lehr is a valuable backup w/ quality starting
experience in the NFL. Signing him will mean the club doesn't have to
address the position in a weak free agent market or the draft. |

That doesn't surprise me. Boy do I miss Tony Mayberry. He was one of the
best centers we ever had.
Wade's problem is two fold. One he is not strong enough in general to
play the position. Two he does not fit in with the Bucs OL - Being
undersized and weak he would have his best success "influence" blocking
and we have a OL of drive blocking maulers.
So besides not being very good he's like a square peg in a round hole
with us.
I think however Buenning is gonna get the nod at this point to be
the starter but I wouldn't be surprised to see them draft a center and
I'm sure they'll bring in a FA also.

This year's darft is probably the best for OL in quite a while. There
is very good candidates at all line positions and rather decent depth.
It will not be suprising to see three or four OL to go in the first
round this year and upwards to ten on the first day.

The draft is very strong at the OT position, not at center.

The Center position is rarely taken in the first round. That does not
necessarily mean that the position is weak. OT, especially LOT, is the
most coveted OL position.
