Every Cardinals fan should be hoping we take Joe Thomas. As Michael
Smith said on the Mock Draft special, even after losing Davis the
Cardinals can expect an improved offensive line with the additions
they have made and the addition of Russ Grimm as OL coach. Having said
that, bringing in a franchise offensive lineman like Joe Thomas would
bring this team to the next level. We have the offensive weapons; a
QB, a RB, WR, and a young talented TE. What has been missing is an
offensive line.

This is old news.. And since the demise of Dave McGuiness as head
coach, draft day has been the best time of year for Cardinals fans
(Fitzgerald - Leinart). Even if we don't get Thomas we may still have
a chance to get marquee offensive players like Peterson or Johnson and
if Thomas goes it means that 1 of those two players will be there
along with possibly Brady Quinn which makes that fifth pick pure gold
in terms of trade value..

Go Cardinals! In Whisenhunt we trust!

Good idea, but already gone.

I'm fine with Levi Brown. I haven't yet heard the "analysis" from the
draftniks and Mel Kiper-wannabees, but I'll bet there's some whining
that the Cardinals "reached" for Brown, and should have traded down, if
they really wanted him.

Somehow, the draftniks seem to forget that sometimes a trade isn't
always possible. Thus, a lot of the whining comes when what happens in
real life doesn't validate their own (overinflated) opinions.

I find it interesting that Alan Branch dropped out of the first round (I
saw a lot of mock drafts with him as high as 6th), and that the
Cardinals traded up to get him.

I was also amused by the mocks that indicated that the Cardinals should
(or would) draft Adrian Peterson. I saw a pair (done at
cbs.sportsline.com, I think) by one writer who took an approach that I
like -- one of what he thinks teams _should_ do, and a second on what he
thinks _will_ do. However, in both, he had the Cardinals taking
Peterson. I think he let his biases on the "should" color his analysis
on "will". Nice idea, bad execution. And as talented as Peterson is, I
don't think the Cardinals would be much better with him (even without
the injury concerns).

Now the real work starts -- not the blue-chips at the top of the first
round, but filling in later rounds, with productive players, and we're
short two picks, as it is. Maybe not guys that are starters (at least
this year), but solid role players (and depth).

I'd like to see us get (in order): an outside linebacker, another
cornerback, and I wouldn't mind seeing another offensive lineman, as a
developmental project.

Good points, Smith. A couple of things I didn't know that the NFL
draft experts pointed out that made me feel more comfotable about the
Brown pick:

1. Russ Grimm had Brown rated over Joe Thomas
2. The Cardinals did in fact hope Thomas dropped to them but not to
draft him, rather to trade the pick so they could get Brown with a
later pick.
3. Trading down wasn't an option because Brown wouldn't have lasted
past the Atlanta Falcons. It was either take Brown right then and
there or trade down and take Staley.

To be honest, Brown was my third best OL going into the draft behind
Thomas and Staley. They are all in the same vicinity when it comes to
size, the one big downfall when it comes to Brown is that the
universal thought is he has a lot of room to improve when it comes to
pass protection. If Leinart doesn't stay healthy this team is done,
plain and simple. Brown doesn't have anywhere close to the speed of
Staley or Thomas. Having said all of that I am totally on-board with
the in "Whisenhunt and Grimm We Trust" slogan and if Grimm thinks
Brown was the best fit then I agree.

I wouldn't have been upset if the Cardinals had drafted Peterson. I
am one of those guys who likes to go after the most talented player on
the board, in a Denny Green fashion. Whisenhunt in his career has used
multiple RB's on a regular basis in his offensive schemes, had we
taken Peterson I have little doubt that Whisenhunt would have found a
way to make him a good impact player for the Cardinals. On the ESPN
mock draft on thursday, Michael Smith layed out a very persuasive
argument on why the Cardinals should draft Peterson and yet this
afternoon he pulled a 360 and said the Cardinals needed to draft Levi
Brown.

I liked the Alan Branch drafting a lot, definitely a great value pick
that addressed a need for this team considering Watson certainly looks
like he needs some improvement.

As for LB's I was surprised to see them draft Buster Davis
considering we have Gerald Hayes who everyone loves and thinks is one
of the most underrated NFL players in the league. Maybe Davis also has
the ability to play OLB? I would also love to see them grab an OL
developmental project but at the same time I would rather them do that
with Elton Brown rather than wasting a pick on another OL.. What I
would really like to see is us take a strong look at sleeper TE's and
FB's.. Maybe a FB like Le'Ron McClain from Alabama who can add some
offense in terms of catching the ball yet is also an effective
blocker.. As for TE this is where I would probably rather spend time
going after a developmental pick like a Schoman from Boise St.. Don't
get me wrong, I still have great hopes for Leonard Pope but it wouldnt
hurt to have a young kid behind him pushing him a bit..
