If so, then the Bucs are seriously looking at Safety in the draft, they

And it's an great contract for him. $10.5M the first year, $18 over
the first 3, according to ESPN. No way the Bucs were in that $$$
range.

I think the Pack overpaid. I wouldn't have gone past $5 mill the first
year, considering the dropoff in numbers he's had the last 2 years...

I agree. He may surprise and return to form. But that's a hell of a
lot to risk on it, IMHO.

Good move by the Bucs -- not signing Woodson...
1. His strength is CB and not safety.
2. He is more a man to man than a cover 2 defender.
3. How many games will he miss by injury?
4. Leaves some cap room to sign other vets for depth (e.g. OL or DL) after
the draft

Woodson Set To Sign With Green Bay

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Green Bay Packers have reached a
seven-year deal with free agent CB Charles Woodson (Raiders) worth around
$45 million. While the deal has been agreed to, Woodson has yet to sign the
deal.

You gotta wonder how much this signing was influenced by Favre coming back for another year and the Pack trying to reload
for a playoff run. I bet if Brett hadn't said he was coming back that they don't sign Woodson today.

Yes that maybe true.

Cover 2 is a zone and a vetern like Woodson can learn to play that
well enough.

How many games willa first round pick miss due to injury? Injuries are
difficult to predict. Some players can play with more pain than
others. That is tough to make a judgement on.

Yes that does leave room under the cap. And most likely t here will be
more cap casualties as June approaches. It will be very easy to find a
vet that the Bucs can rent for a year as a backup.
