Aside from the fact that that's football, of course.

One 3-0 game, and someone wants to change the field in a relatively new
stadium. Sheesh, since when does one game make a trend?

As a Chiefs fan, I was thrilled to no end when they changed Arrowhead
Stadium from artificial turf to real grass, despite the occasional muddy
field. That's just part of football.

The new rubber stuff is a huge improvement over the old plastic on top
of concrete, but it still should only be used when necessary, IMO.

Excerpt:

Trudging through the quagmire of Heinz Field,
the Dolphins and Steelers nearly went all night
without scoring.

In the end, Jeff Reed's 24-yard field goal with
17 seconds left gave Pittsburgh a 3-0 victory
Monday night against winless Miami, the first
time in 64 years an NFL game lasted that long
with no points.

Have the morons at Heinz Field ever thought of installing FieldTurf or
whatever artificial playing field surface is the latest technology?

In this day an age, there is no excuse for a professional outdoor football
stadium to be using real sod grass, especially in cities that experience
lots of rain/sleet/snowy weather during the playing season.

What happened in Pittsburgh was that the stadium was used for several PA
high school playoff games along with a couple of Pitt Panther games and a
Steeler game -- all in the course of a three week period. At this time of
year, a lot of grass fields in the Northern US are actually dirt painted
green (old Municipal Stadium in Cleveland was a prime example; don't know if
the new stadium built on the same site is better or not). Gillette Field in
Foxborough, MA (the home of the Patriots and the Revolution MLS soccer team)
was in such bad shape last year that Bob Kraft sprung for a Field Turf field
on short notice.

Since the Rooneys aren't Gazillionaires like Kraft, they decided to put new
turf on top of the old. Had the weather been nice over the weekend, the
field would've held up. But the weather was terrible all weekend, and the
tarp leaked like a sieve.

But if new sod hadn't been laid, the field would've become a sea of mud and
we would have definitely had the first 0-0 overtime tie in NFL history. (The
Lions and Giants played the last scoreless tie back in 1943, when the
quality of players was the problem -- something called World War Two -- not
the field.)
