According to Fox Sports, Zach Thomas has been informed of his future
release. The Dolphins don't want him back.
I knew this was coming, but it doesn't make it any easier. Thomas is
easily my fav. Dolphin of all time.
You will be missed Zach.
For the record, I think this is a good football move for the
Dolphins. However, part of me did want Zach back in Miami at a
reduced cap number.
I'd bet anything that he is playing in NE next year...

I wouldn't be surprised if Belichick has already been on
the phone. |

Belichick probably has tapes of the phone calls to Zack... |

Yes, I know he's long of tooth...
And he's been 'concussed'...
But wouldn't there be *some* trade interest in Zach?
The guy is still an above average LB.
Surely someone would be willing to give up a pick? |

It a team trades for him they're on the hook for his full $6mil salary for
next year.
And with all the concussive problems he's had this season... it's simply not
worth the risk.

That damn "dismal science" of economics rears it's ugly head.

It's official.....
I think this is as sad as the day Marino "retired" WHen wannstedt took over.
I really hope Taylor stays.. This Team has had "faces" of the dolphins..
Marino, Taylor, Thomas, Shula... We're slowly becoming a "team" not a group
of players... I don't like it. |

No one would give up a pick to for the opportunity to pay Zach 5,7
million. |

Personally, I think he should hang 'em up. I would
hate to have something really serious happen to him,
and there's no guarantee that the team he would end
up on wins the SB anyway. Just ask Seau. |

Mandich had Rosenhaus on today, he is Zach's agent. Thinks Zach would be a
good fit for NE I'm sure
he has already called to meet with NE to see if there is any interest

Would he take the minimum? I bet he'd be a decent ST player. |

I'm not that shocked but its very clear the changing of the gaurd is in
Miami with BP at the helm. I guess as fans we hate to see great players go.
Kinda feels likes when Marino retired.

Zach would be a warrior, and if he stayed healthy, he'd be the best
linebacker on the Patriots by a country mile. |

I see the writers suggesting that, but I don't buy it. Belichick badly
needs to upgrade his LB corps - guys like Seau and Bruschi have spirit,
but the flesh isn't so willing anymore. Thomas is a great player, but
he spent the better part of 2007 suffering from migraines. This is not
a guy a team like N.E. is going to need. If Belichick signs him, it's a
dumb move. I wouldn't be surprised to see NE parting ways with Junior
and Ted this off season.
If it turns out that Thomas can still play a majority of a season for
some team, then Parcells has made a mistake. I'd like to know how many
people think Green had to go because he was injury prone, but feel Zach
is still worth keeping? I'm seeing a big disconnect here...
Didn't folks want Thomas cut or traded?! I could have sworn that people
had been posting comments to that effect in here for a couple of seasons
now....

Well, in NE he could get a ring standing on the sidelines.
I can't see how Zach is a "good fit" in New England. I'm expecting a
"youth movement" on defense in New England. At the end of the day, the
weak link in N.E. is their defense - or so we're told.
If Zach moves to N.E., he's still entering his 13th year in the league
and has just spent most of a 1 - 15 season on the sidelines thanks to a
concussion and migraines. How does this "fit" in New England?
