Don't Automatically Rule Julius Out

IRVING, Texas - Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would not comment on the
status of some of his upcoming high-profile unrestricted free agents,
players such as left tackle Flozell Adams and Pro Bowl safety Ken Hamlin,
other than he's glad they earned Pro Bowl honors.
But on his weekly radio show (1310-AM), Jones did disagree with the
notion that allowing running back Julius Jones to leave is a foregone
conclusion, especially after the Cowboys started Marion Barber in the
playoff game and gave him nearly all the snaps while rushing for 154 yards.
"I don't have that as a given at all," Jones said of assuming Julius
Jones won't be back even after he was essentially benched in the playoff
game. "His frustration is very understandable. He's a great young man, he
works hard. There's nobody that puts all that together that doesn't want to
be on the field competing every chance they get. His frustration is no
negative as far as he's concerned.
"He's an ideal player to have on your team. What we can do, what we
can do at the position, where it is we'll just have to see."
The Cowboys head into the off-season without secure rights to any of
the running backs on this year's 53-man roster. While Jones is scheduled to
become an unrestricted free agent, Barber and Tyson Thompson will be
restricted free agents. The Cowboys can retain right of first refusal with
both players by simply tendering them a one-year offer.
