I'll have you know I'm reading a biography of none other than Adam

The SM-3 is a cool little missile with (as I said on Fox yesterday)
lots of tricks up its sneaky little sleeve. This success is a great
thing for the USA. You can tell it's good by who's crying and
gnashing their teeth about it (the Chinese, Russians, North Koreans,
and Iranians). We have quietly fielded a picket line of defense in
the Pacific against enemy ballistic missiles that WORKS. The Japanese
have already purchased a quantity of these bad boys. The Taiwanese
will be next and even, for no immediate reason I can discern, the
Spanish. It will help the economy, folks, especially here in
Huntsville (not that the town needs it) and it means our enemies can't
fling nuclear warheads in our direction with assurance they will get
through. Be proud. And thank you, President Reagan. And p*ss on all
the nattering nabobs of negativism who called his idea "Star Wars" and
said it would never work.

I am comforted to know that if another country tries to attack us by
letting us know well ahead of time that they are dropping a wounded
satellite on us with no control system that we have been tracking for
months, we are ready.

As long as we get our shuttle out of the way first.

The satellite was going faster than a ballistic missile so to hit it
took a little extra. In any case, it's all done by computers which
don't need anything but an object in space coming over the horizon.
Once the sensors lock on... Katy bar the door. Didn't you ever read
Back to the Moon? How we learned to do this is all in there. I snuck
it in between the lines.

Presumably they're worried about the Basque long-range missiles.

It wasn't an inside job, it was paralysis in the chain of command.
