Time isn't running out on Jets quickly enough

The New Jersey Jets (1- didn't look forward to the end of daylight
savings time. It only meant their season would be one hour longer.
Running on empty, the No. 1 Jets blew a 17-3 lead to register a dramatic
come-from-ahead loss to Washington.

Miasma (0- and St. Louis (0- didn't play over the weekend, but NFL
officials were confident that they could be talked into resuming their
seasons, perhaps as early as Sunday.

Elsewhere, San Francisco (2-6) not only fell short again, but its
kicker, Joe Nedney, was fined for giving booing fans the one-finger
salute in a previous game. Nedney maintained that he was only showing
what a goal-post upright looks like.

And Tennessee tackle Albert Haynesworth, who had three sacks in a 20-9
romp over No. 9 Carolina, said he couldn't have done it alone.

"You've got to credit [Carolina quarterback] David Carr, too," the
gracious Haynesworth said, "since he held the ball and allowed me to get
there."

* Quotebook: Tennessee running back Chris Henry, facing a suspension for
reportedly using a banned substance: "You've got to keep it positive."
He meant his attitude, not his drug test.

* Quotebook II: NBC's Bob Costas said that the 20 million fans watching
the Dallas-Philadelphia game could have conserved enough energy "to
power nearly 2,000 homes for a year" if they had turned off "the lights
in just one room that would usually stay lit." Of course, what Costas
didn't point out is that the fans could have conserved even more energy
by turning off their TV sets.
