Gee, just because they college coaches do well in college doesn't mean
a damn thing in the pros. Nick Sabin is a prime example. How come
Miami didn't find someone already in the pros as an assistant before
they hired this guy, who eventually quit. They were paying him over 3
million too. I heard Atlanta was courting Pete Caroll last week about
to pay him $$$ when he hasn't done anything in the NFL. He wasn't
exactly a good coach back when he was running the Jets either.

It boggles my mind when there are assistant NFL coaches that already
are in the NFL and don't get an opportunity. It goes to show that
owners are no more knowledgeable than anyone else looking in.

True to a point.

Because Saban was an NFL assistant coach from the Parcells/Belichick
tree.

Which isn't big money for big time college coaches.

Anything? Winning record. Division champion. Won playoff games. I think
that counts for something.

That was his first head coaching gig. He was more successful with the Pats.

Carroll was in the NFL for 15 years before leaving for USC. Generally
the college coaches that get tapped have NFL experience, and often a lot
of it.

And I think there's something to being the head guy, even in a college
program as opposed to just being an assistant. Different decisions get
made when you're sitting in the big chair.
